Happy Halloween from Prime-Time!

This past week, a few shows celebrated Halloween on their latest episodes. I only got a to watch a few, but what I saw was pretty great. NBC shows such as “The Office”, “Parks and Recreation”, “Community”, and “30 Rock” all had Halloween-themed episodes at least for a portion of the episode. Also, on the CW, “The Vampire Diaries” had a Halloween episode. These are always quite fun, especially the comedy shows, because the costumes are always great and the episodes seem more fun.

On “The Office”, the cold open featured Dunder Mifflin throwing a haunted house. The costumes were just fantastic. Jim had another classic costume by writing BOOK on his face and being “Facebook”. Another funny moment was Creed dressed up as a normal vampire while office temp, Ryan, was dressed up as vampire Edward Cullen from “Twilight”, exclaiming to Creed, “That’s just not the trend in vampires right now.” It is so true and so hilarious. Other memorable costumes were Paul Blart, Jigsaw from the “Saw” movies and Princess Fiona from “Shrek”. Michael Scott, however, had to ruin the haunted house by fake hanging himself in front of a bunch of kids and telling them that suicide is bad. It definitely would have been nice to have an entire Halloween episode, but what we got was funny.

The episode of “Community” was also pretty great. It centered around a Dios de los Muertos party and everyone trying to get main character Jeff to come to the party. The episode had some great moments, such as Abed dressing up in Batman and talking in a super low voice. He definitely wins for best Batman impression. Also, Chevy Chase still trying to prove that he is not that old is just too funny.

Television Without Pity posted a blog that lists their Top 10 Halloween-themed TV episodes. Some of my personal favorites including Buffy’s “Halloween”, Bones’s “The Mummy in the Maze”, and The Office’s “Halloween”. Check it out here:
